On Appreciation and Translation of English Humor

英语幽默反映英语语言文化,不理解英语幽默就不能算是真正掌握英语。翻译幽默语言应首先具备欣赏幽默的能力。幽默语言的翻译虽非易事,但毕竟有其可译性。而功能翻译、直译和归化则是幽默语言翻译的重要策略。

English humor embodies English language culture. No understanding of English humor means no good command of English. This paper argues that you must have the ability to appreciate Engfish humor before you set out to translate it. Although humor translation is by no means easy, there is still a great translatability in it. Functional translation, literal translation, and adaptation are all important approaches in humor translation.
