The Use of Verb-Noun Collocations by Chinese College Students in English Writing:A Corpus-based Approach

文章通过对比中国学生语料库(CLEC)和英语本族语者语料库(LOB)中动名词搭配的使用情况,探究中国大学生和本族语者在该搭配上的特点和使用差异,并进一步比较非英语专业与英语专业大学生在动名词搭配上的差异。

This study investigates the use of verb-nbun collocations in Chinese college students＇ English writings by comparing a learner corpus CLEC and a native speaker corpus LOB. Through the study, it is found that there is a marked difference between the two types of learners in the overall frequencies of the errors and misused collocates by thein. No maiier ihe learnets major in English or not, it poses certain difficulty in their use of verb-noun c0110ca- tions. By looking at some typical errors, we find that both groups tend to turn to their mother tongue for help ,especially when an English word is assumed to have their Chinese correspon- dence.
