Synergistic Effects of Mg(OH)_2 Nanoparticles with Methylphenyl-Silicone Flame Retardant in Polypropylene

摘要 在引入少量表面活性剂的条件下采用共沉淀法制备了纳米氢氧化镁。应用热分析(TGA)、极限氧指数(LOI)研究了在聚丙烯(PP)中该纳米氢氧化镁与甲基苯基硅树脂的阻燃协同效应。结果表明:在PP/纳米Mg(OH)2复合材料中添加少量的硅树脂使LOI明显提高,表明纳米Mg(OH)2与硅树脂具有阻燃协同效应。硅树脂的加入使材料的降解速率降低,热解残炭量提高,促进了炭层的形成。 Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles were prepared by co-precipitation reactions with adding suitable surfactants. The synergistic effects of Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles with methylphenyl-silicone flame retardant in polypropylene (PP) were investigated by thermal analysis (TGA) and limiting oxygen index (LOI) test. The results show that the small amount of silicone can improve the flame retardancy of the PP/nanosized Mg(OH)2 blend, which indicates a distinct synergistic effect of Mg(OH)2 nanoparticles with methylphenyl-silicone in the LOI value of the PP. The addition of the silicone decreases the decomposition rate of the blends, increases the degradation char residue and promotes the formation of char.
