伦理道德的问题是哈代的小说创作始终关注的一个重要问题。在哈代的小说创作中,违反威塞克斯传统伦理道德的人物,都有一个悲惨的结局。哈代对当时盛行的宗教道德和资产阶级自私自利的道德观念进行了批判。在批判宗教道德和资产阶级利己主义道德观念的同时,哈代又充满激情地褒奖了威塞克斯农村人民淳朴、善良、善于牺牲和利他主义的高尚的道德情操。
The problem of ethics and morality is very important in Hardy＇s writing. In Hardy＇s novel creation, the characters who violates the traditional ethic and moral in Wessex always have a tragic result. Hardy violently criticized the religious morals and the egoistic moral concept. In the same time Hardy awarded the plain, goodness, spirit of sacrifice altruism of wessex residents.
