校训是学校制定的对全校师生具有指导意义的词语，也是全校师生的行为准则。大学校训是一所大学传统和特色的集中体现。本文分析了校训的概念和内涵，阐述了校训的发展历史。通过对几所富有代表性大学校训的释读，品味其内涵和意蕴，指出其重要作用，并对当前大学校训中一些不尽如人意的地方进行了剖析，阐明了一则好的校训所要达到的标准以及具体的做法。

The university motto is the word, phrase or sentence adopted as a guide to the conduct of all the teachers and students, and it is also a brief statement used to express a principle, a goal, or an ideal of a university. The university motto is the reflection of a university＇s tradition and characteristic. This thesis analyzes university mottos＂ concept, connotation and origin. This thesis analyzes several universities＇ mottos and their important significances; it has also been pointed out that there are some unsatisfactory elements to some university mottos in contrast to the excellence of other university mottos.
