The comparison and analysis of computing water surface profiles are made by using various formulas.A control equation of connecting water surface profiles is established.The theoretic analysis and computing result of a typical engineering show that the computation and control of water surface profiles of variable discharge flow in side channel differ with uniform discharge flow.This computation and control are determined not only by control depth of outlet section,but also by control depth and characteristic parameters in side channel.The computation of water surface profiles for side channel spillway has its own characters.
