Since Qing dynasty, China has been training its own interpreters. Due to China' s special conditions, the majority of its interpreters have been integrated bilinguals, which can hardly be changed. The differentiation between compound bilingual interpreters and integrated bilingual interpreters, thus, has fundamentally little practical value. The authors of this paper start their discussion with the definition and categorization of bilingualism, analyze the problems in Bao Gang' s differentiation between compound and integrated bilingual interpreters, and finally propose that in China it is improper to differentiate between interpreters according to their language acquisition conditions.
