Objective : To explore the feature of amygdalar interhemispheric functional connectivity in the patients with major depressive disorders(MDDs) during resting state and thereby to explore the role of amygdalar and amygdalar-related regions in the psychopathology of depression. Method:The resting-state function magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) scans were performed in 11 first-episode patients with MDDs and 11 gender, age, and education matched healthy controls. Pearson correlation analysis was used to measure the amygdalar interhemispheric functional connectivity in each subject and two sample test was used to analyse the difference of correlation coefficient between two groups. P 〈 0.05 was considered to show significant difference between two groups. Results :The depressed group and healthy controls revealed significant amygdalar interhemispheric functional connectivity ( P 〈 0.05 ). In comparison with healthy control group, the depressed group showed significantly decreased amygdalar interhemispheric functional connectivity during resting state( P = 0.025 ). Conclusion:The result indicated decreased amygdalar interhemispheric functional connectivity may exist in depression during resting state and it may be due to the abnormality of amygdalar and the abnormality of coordination between amygdalar and other emotion-related regions.
