张澜先生是一位忠诚的爱国主义者，坚强的民主战士，又是一位杰出的人民教育家。他对教育事业的主要贡献及教育思想，突出表现在倡办新学，德、智、体并重，主张教育“陶铸人才，以为国用”；提倡男女平等，开创女子入学、参与社会活动的新风；创办实业教育，促进学校教育为发展地方经济服务；支持学生，鼓励爱国青年向西方寻求革命真理；主张学术、思想自由、民主办学。“革命为教育，教育为革命”。

Zhang Lan was a faithful patriots, a strong non-Party democrat, an outstanding educationist. He made some contribution to education. He had some typical educational thought. He advocated new education, paid equal attention to moral education, intellectual education and physical culture. He pointed out that education brings up useful persons for the country. He advocated the equality of men and women, opened a new prospect of girls＇ ente- ring schools and participating in social activities. He established the industrial education and promoted school edu- cation to give service to the local economy. He supported and encouraged the students to pursue revolution truth. He advocated academy and ideology freedom, running schools democratically, Revolution for Education, Education for Revolation.
