On the Connotation of the Character "Lu" in Zuozhuan

在训诂中,"杀"、"戮"往往可以互训,但以《左传》为文献依据,分析"戮"字在不同语境中的使用情况,发现"戮"在上古的含义并不同于"杀",它重在责罚以示众。

In interpretation of ancient texts, the characters ＂sha＂ and ＂lu＂ can always be explained by each other. However, through analyzing the usage of the character ＂lu＂ in different contexts in Zuozhuan, it can be obtained that the meaning of the character ＂lu＂ in ancient times is not the same as that of the character ＂sha＂. ＂Lu＂ puts particular emphasis on punishment and public exposure.
