Rhodiola L as a valuable resource of traditional Chinese medicine with abundant species and specialied habitat, has long been used as a medicinal plant. The active components include Salidroside, Pahodiosin, Ptyrosol and many other flavones. Pharmacologic research found that they have multiple activities as anti-aging, anti-anoxic, anti-tumor, as well as anti-high altitude agents. This paper reviews medicinal history, chemical constituents and pharmacological action of Rhodioal L, to give a prospect for further research.
