お?,4Dihydrodimethyl3,5pyridinedicarboxylic esters were aromatized by refluxing for 36 hours in C6H6/50% NaOH in the presence of phase transfer catalyst to give corresponding pyridines in excellent yields. The aromatization mechanism was tentatively discussed.
