Spiritual Predicament of China's Modern University System

大学精神面临的困境,既有"官学"色彩浓厚的先天不足,也有大学发展中传统割裂的历史误会,更有在社会转型期面临不适的现实因素。构建现代大学制度,既要秉持人文精神、自治精神、学术自由精神和批判精神等传统要素,也要彰显包容精神、超越精神与创新精神等现代要素。

In the history of higher education＇s develolanent, coincidentally, the formation of the university＇s spirit is the symbol of the construction of modem university system. University＇s spirit in the present age in China faces confusion and it has some sources： congenital deficiency of its too thick bureaucratic airs; historical misunderstanding of little continuity in its development; discomfort of its stage in the social transformation. The construction of modem university system depends on those traditional factors： humanistic spirit, self-governing spirit, the spirit of academic freedom and critical spirit as well; meanwhile, those modem factors, including tolerant spirit, exceeding spirit and innovative spirit, should also be taken into consideration.
