It is introduced that the achievments of research, at home and abroad, of the dimensioning of risers based on mathematical approach. There are freezing rate (Caines Method), Q Number Method, the modified version of the Q-Method and Perimetric Quotient Method. Some of these methods are applied not only to steel castings but also to nonferrous metals.
