Objective To explore whether 6-month HAART can improve quality of life in AIDS patients.Method A total of 40 cases selected from 2 districts of Anhui province were treated with HAART, and their demographic, epidemiological, clinical and laboratory data were collected, MOS-HIV form was employed to evaluate patients' quality of life at baseline and after 6 month treatment, and relevont data were analyzed. Result The average age of these 40 patients was 42.2 ± 8.8 years(26 - 62 years). The baseline CD4 count was 197 ± 410/μl(94 - 271), while after 6-month antiretroviral therapy, the CD4 count and weight were elevated by 122 ± 109c/μl( t = 7.07, P 〈 0.01 ) and 5.1 ± 4.5kg( t = 7.24, P 〈 0.01)respectively.The evaluation of quality of life using MOS-HIV form indicated that patients'physical and mental health conditions were both significantly improved, especially in terms of their general health status, pain perception, social functioning, psychology, energy and fatigue, distress, cognitive functioning, living conditions and transition of health. Conclusion The quality of life of AIDS patients receiving antiretroviral therapy for 6 months was significantly improved;the patients had elevated CD4 lymphocyte, gained weight and had better physical and mental health status.
