This study details the theories about the measurement of foreign exchange reserves and makes an estimation on these theories. The theories include quantitative analyses, qualitative analyses, static analyses and dynamic analyses. The theories offer manifold approaches for studying the appropriate scale of foreign exchange reserves. It is important for us to use these theories to measure the foreign exchange reserves in China.
