Vladimir Putin,the outgoing president of Russia,has said'a modern transport infrastructure is the real road to Russia’s future.' Accordingly,the Kremlin is now striving to implement an ambitious program to improve its highways,railroads,and airports.The plan is to construct 39,000 miles of new roads and 5,300 miles of railways by 2015,and an investment of USD 1 trillion is expected to be raised over these 10 years,with 80%of it coming from private sources. This enormous building campaign will afford a plethora of investment opportunities.Some foreign and domestic companies have been invited to bid on the building projects,and the winners will operate the facilities they build in exchange for toll revenues. Although risks exist,plenty of investors are likely to be enticed by the potentially immense profits.
