通过对孙惠芬小说《歇马山庄的两个女人》的分析指出,在中国农村城市化现代化的进程中,城市以其优越的社会条件傲视乡村的贫瘠与闭塞,农民面对城市,实际上也就注定要面对一种强势文化。怨恨与羡慕这两种情感相互交织,相互扭结与共生。并将农民面对城市强势文化的这种体验,称为"怨羡情结",认为它是中国农村现代化过程中一种典型的现代性体验。《歇马山庄的两个女人》真实地展现了这种心灵体验。
