摘要
肥胖日益增加的长期影响是当今公共卫生领域最令人关注的、存在热烈争议的问题之一。因为肥胖的预后不良，所以人们担心这种情况可能会逆转最近几十年公共卫生领域取得的诸多成果，并使美国人的总体健康水平恶化。迄今，这种威胁最令人信服的证据是：糖尿病的发病率和患病率升高。糖尿病与肥胖两者的发展趋势相当一致。
