The Relations between Arbitrariness and Iconicity of Linguistic Signs

语言符号的象似性与任意性这两种观点之间的争论由来已久。本文主要论述语言符号任意性和象似性的关系,分析各种争论焦点,并在认知语言学原理的指导下,论证了任意性普遍存在于语言符号内部的能指与所指之间的关系上,而象似性普遍存在于符号组合(语言结构)中。语言符号是任意性和象似性的统一体。

The debate betweep the arbitrariness discusses the relations between the arbitrariness and and iconicity of linguistic signs is of long standing. The article iconicity of linguistic signs and analysizes various kinds of argument focuses. Besides, directed by the theory of the recognitive linguistics, the article expounds that the arbitrariness exists in the relation between the signifier and the signified while the iconicity exists in the combination of the signs （linguistic structure）. Linguistic sign is the entity of arbitrariness and iconicity.
