Resurrection of Foochow Port:A Government Perspective

五口通商后,福州港何以在长达十年的时间内几乎没有什么正常的对外贸易?利用现存档案资料分析五口通商时期福州港对外贸易的历史进程,并对制约港口贸易的因素进行分析,可以看出官方对对外贸易态度的变化是导致港口由"死港"走向繁荣的根本原因。换言之,制度变迁导致了港口贸易的繁荣,进而促进了区域经济的发展。

Based on archive files,this paper analyzes the trade history of Foochow Port during the period of Five Opening Treaty Ports at the end of Qing Dynasty and probes into the reasons why no normal trade was carried out at Foochow Port for the beginning ten years of that period.This paper also analyzes the factors that restrict the port trade and puts forward the view that the resurrection of the port is ushered in with the change of government attitude towards foreign trade then,in other words,it is the institutional changes that lead to the flouring of the port and the regional economy.
