Deviation as opposed to norms of language is used in all genres of literature, poetry in particular. E. E. Cummings, one of the representatives of modern American poets, has fully exploited this device. This article investigates the phonological, lexical, grammatical, graphological, and discoursal deviations in Cummings＇ poetry, with the purpose of uncovering their significance to the understanding and aesthetic effects of Cummings＇ poems.
