"Manchurian Kana" refers to the project proposed in July 1934 by ZENG Ke, a professor in Great Harmony College of Puppet Manchuria, with the intention to replace Chinese characters with Japanese kana. It is an unusual contribution made to culture by a Chinese intellectual who whole - heartedly succumbed to the Japanese colonial rule under the circumstance then. In 1940, the institutions under the Ministry of Education of Japan put it into practice aiming to replace the phonetic notation system and resist Chinese character system. However, it demised with Japan losing the war. The historical evolution of the genesis and expiration of "Manchurian Kana" vividly reflected the evil nature of the Japanese language colonizing policy implemented in Puppet Manchuria.
