Adopting “Identity” as a key word to examine the prose works of Michael Ondaatje, the paper finds out that “searching” in his novels not only plays the role of carrying out the plot, it also implies the efforts of locating himself in the postcolonial world. After analyzing the four books which cover a 20-year period, the paper argues that his anxiety of identity has never been dissolved.
