Virginia Wooff' s literary works are abundant in the description of human being' s inner world and unconsciousness, coincident with Freudian psychoanalysis. This essay, by taking Wooff' s Orlando as an example, begins with the textual analysis of the formal structure of the novel. Then it goes further to analyze the novel in terms of Freudian concepts. Finally, Wooff' s personal experience is examined in order to prove that the author' s sexual ambivalence is unconsciously reflected in the novel. Orlando is treated to a full paragraph of selfhood and the fullest expression of her alternating personality. This paper expects not only to shed new light on the novel itseff, but also probe into the relationship between Virginia Wooff' s literary creation and Freudian psychoanalysis.
