There are two eye movement control models in the study of reading: the EZ Reader model and the SWIFT model. The similarities between these two models are: 1.Both of them believe that the eye movement data patterns during reading are caused by the cognitive system and the oculomotor system.2.The oculomotor system is independent of the cognitive system. The differences between them are: 1.The EZ Reader model supports that English words have been processed serially. But the SWIFT model thinks that English words have been processed in parallel.2.The SWIFT model believes the saccadic target has been selected by the activation of English words. But the EZ Reader uses the cancellation mechanism of saccade to explain the phenomenon of jumping words. This article compares these two important models and gives some suggestions to the development of the eye movement control model during Chinese reading.
