Comments on Communion Conference of Prediction and Service Skills about the Extremely Low Temperature and Snow-ice Disasters in 2008

2008年3月28日,华中五省预报服务和科技管理人员针对2008年初在中国南方出现的低温、雨雪、冰冻极端气象灾害过程,就冰雪灾情分布、气候条件、机理研究、灾情评估等多方面的初步研究成果进行了交流,这对于制定今后极端气象灾害的服务预案有积极的作用,并为今后进一步提高此类灾害的预报技术和深入研究它的形成机理奠定基础。

On March 28, 2008, weather forecasters and scientific managers of meteorology from five provinces of Central China gathered together to research the reasons of the severe low temperature, snow-ice weather which lasted a long time in the south of China in the beginning of 2008. The discussion is mainly focused on such primary conclusions as the snow-ice distribution, the climatic reasons for the disasters, the mechanisms of both frozen rain and snowstorm, and the disaster assessing. The communion plays an active role in making emergency plans for meteorological disasters, researching the mechanisms of disastrous snow-ice weather deeply and enhancing forecasting skills to such disastrous weather.
