The Whole Process of the Construction of the Monument to the People's Heroes

人民英雄纪念碑是新中国的第一个公共艺术工程,于1949年9月30日由毛主席亲自奠基,耗时8年,直至1958年5月1日才正式落成。该工程汇集了郑振铎、吴作人、梁思成、刘开渠等一大批当时中国最优秀的文史专家、建筑家和艺术家。2008年正值纪念碑落成50周年,北京画院美术馆以展览的形式再现人民英雄纪念碑的建设过程,并以多媒体、图片、实物、文献资料等多种表现手法展示人民英雄纪念碑所取得的多方面成就:它是书法、建筑与雕塑艺术的统一,思想性与艺术性的统一,民族传统与时代精神的统一。

The Monument to the People's Heroes,as the first public art project of new China,was founded by Chairman Mao on Sept.30,1949 and the construction began in 1952 and was not completed until May 1,1958.The project gathered a batch of most outstanding historians,artists and architects at that time such as Zheng Zhenduo,Wu Zuoren,Liang Sicheng and Liu Kaiqu.The Year 2008 is the fiftieth anniversary of the Monument to the People's Heroes,the Art Museum of Beijing Fine Art Academy will present exhibits to show the whole process of the construction of the Monument to the People's Heroes.In addition,accomplishment of various aspects scored by the Monument to the People's Heroes will be displayed by means of various forms such as media,photographs,material objects,documents and so on,which could be seen as the perfect combination of calligraphy,architecture and sculpture art,the unity of thought and art,the unity of national tradition and spirit of the time.
