Evolution of Relationship between Chinese Traditional Music and Classical Literature

中国民族音乐与古典文学有着相依相存的关系,这种依存关系并不是简单固定的,而是随着时代的发展不断地变化着,其变化的历史轨迹可大体划分为三个既相关联、又相区别的时期:原生综合期,分化离异期,交叉综合期。中国民族音乐与古典文学正是沿着这一螺旋式上升的历史轨迹,在彼此的相互作用、相互影响中,不断发展,不断丰富,不断完善。

Chinese traditional music and classical literature have been interacting with each other over a long period of time. But the interaction is not a simple and static mode. The interaction varies with time, going through three phases. In the first phase, the music and the literature were closely integrated. During the second phase, the two went in separate ways, but the third phase saw them act upon each other. The three phases form a line along which the music and literature have developed either separately or being blended. Such interaction between the two art forms has helped enrich and upgrade the both.
