Interaction between Poems and Vernacular Novels in Song Dynasty

在宋代,诗词与小说尤其是话本小说的关系比较密切,这是有宋一代的时代文化风尚,话本小说娱乐功能的选择,诗词本身的怡情娱乐功能等原因共同合力的结果。诗词与话本小说相结合的文学功用主要表现在两方面:一方面,小说通过引用诗词,提高了其文体的表现力,使小说更好地适应着社会实用的目的;另一方面,诗词因为小说的表现需要而突破了其功能与题材的限制,使诗词的取材视野深入到广袤的社会生活中去,吸收了世俗文化的营养,而变得内容丰富,风格多样。

Poems in Song Dynasty are closely associated with novels, especially vernacular novels. This phenomenon result from the cultural fashion in Song Dynasty and the recreational functions of these novels. The functions of poems to lift the spirit and nourish the soul also contribute much to the phenomenon. Poems are combined with vernacular novels. On the one hand, novels, by adopting poems, strengthen the power of expression, making novels adapt to the society. On the other hand, poems overcome the limits of functions and styles, expanding the subjects of poems deep into ordinary cultures and thus obtaining more styles.
