On Sima Xiangru’s Contribution to the Development of Southwest Minority-inhabited Areas

司马相如在汉武帝时期先后两次出使巴蜀,作《喻巴蜀檄》《难蜀父老》,准确地宣示了汉王朝的旨意,对开发西南夷作了政策上和理论上的阐述,安定了民心,取得了开发西南夷的成功,显示了他卓越的政治才干,同时对汉王朝经营西南地区,开通南丝绸之路也有着重大意义。

Sima Xiangru goes to Ba-Shu twice on mission under the rule of Emperor Wudi of the Han Dynasty, during which time he writes two articles to declare the purport of the Dynasty accurately, and e- laborates the policies and theories for the development of southwest minority-inhabited areas, which reas- sures the public, makes achievement in the development, shows his excellent political talent, and at the same time is of great significance in the Dynasty＇s governing of the southwest and opening of the Silk Road.
