Abstract The FT Raman and IR spectra of the new compounds 1 17 (see scheme) have been measured. Because of the structure resemblance of the ligand INO and IN’, the spectra of the two kinds of compounds are similar. FT Raman spectra are proved to be effective for characterization of the indenyl ring and metal ring bond vibration mode. The two kinds of compounds show common aromatic ring vibrations at 1608 cm -1 (vw),1525cm -1 (m),1442 cm -1 (m) 1338 cm -1 (s) and 1000 cm -1 (m), and the aromatic=CH out of plane deformation band appears at 740 cm -1 (s). The v(M O) appeares at 445 cm -1 and the v(M ring) band appears at 220 240 cm -1 . The CH 3O group in IN’ Ln complexes show characteristic band at 2840 cm -1 . The IR spectra of these compounds are easy to characterize the polar group in the compounds, such as the v(C O C) at 1056 cm -1 .
