《编织婴儿篮的惶恐》是美国女作家帕特丽夏·海斯密斯生前发表的唯一一篇蕴涵女性主义思想的作品。作者通过对主人公戴安娜这位成功新女性的细致入微的心理剖析,生动地再现了上世纪五六十年代,女性在初步取得了与男性相同的社会权利之后内心所产生的巨大的身份认同危机。作家在声势浩大的女性主义运动的历史背景下,对妇女解放的何去何从表现出深刻的关注与思考,反映出作家对女性性别角色内涵的深层思索。女性解放不能以女性天性的丧失为代价,女性在寻求实现自我的同时,绝不能舍弃女性生命本体的自然特质,不能舍弃自然的妻性和母性。

＂The Terrors of Basket Weaving＂ by the famous American woman writer Patricia Highsmith （1921 -1995） is the unique short story which represents her feminist viewpoints. Through extremely detailed description of the heroine＇s inner life, the author deftly reveals women＇s identity crisis in the 1960s＇of the 20th century when women have achieved, to a certain extent, the equality with men. The present article tends to analyze and interpret the author＇s concern over the standard of the sexual equality as well as her worry about the future of Women＇s Lib. To make a conclusion, women should move backward to their womanhood, but critically. On one hand, women need to break away from conventional woman role to be mother, wife and sweetheart, on the other hand, they should not give up the unique nature of womanhood.
