The History and Present Conditions of Hunan Shadow Play

作为非物质文化遗产的湖南影戏具有较高的文化艺术保护价值,它是北宋影戏的余脉,明末清初便已流行于湖南。新时期以来,湖南新型影戏引领了我国影戏艺术的变革。目前,乡村影戏主要依托民间信仰而生存,濒临灭绝,亟待抢救和保护。

As a nonmaterial cultural heritage, Hunan shadow play is worthy of protection with important cultural and artistic values. It is the remnant of Northern Song shadow play and became widely popular in Hunan in the end of the Ming Dynasty and early in the Qing Dynasty. In the new era Hunan shadow play cranes the neck of Chinese shadow play in its reform. At present, as the rural shadow play mainly depends upon folk beliefs for existence, it is in in peril of extinction. Therefore protective measures for this form of art are imperative.
