United Nations Conferences on Trade and Development （UNCTAD） committee divided the development of ports into four generations. The development of ports follows the law of evolving from generation to generation, though, including some objective conditions or subjective factors. Based on the sufficient understanding of the influence factors in the course of upgrading and transforming of port generations, together with the empirical research on the development of Shenzhen Port, it helps to have a scientific analysis and calm pondering for the developmental stages of ports and generation upgrading.
