明清时事小说在崇尚实录的同时,并不排斥虚构。虚构的大量使用,固然是由于小说文体本身的特殊要求,但最主要的影响来自下层作者的艺术需要、文学观念、文化心理,乃至市场关注。在明亡清兴背景下,时人文学观念、文化心理产生了巨大变迁,进而对时事小说虚构艺术产生了特殊影响。时事小说虚构也许不符合时事真实,却符合艺术、思想的真实。

The current events novels during Ming and Qing Dynasties didnt reject fiction at the time of emphasizing reality. A great deal of fiction was surely because of the special request of novel literary style, but the most influence came from the special angle of view from the bottom of society, from the authors＇ demand, literal idea, and the market. During the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the people＇s literature idea, and mental state produced a huge change, and this change created special influence on the fiction in the current events novels.
