The accession of China to WTO has imposed severe challenges as well as provided opportunities for the economic development of Chongqing. Chongqing should step up economic restructuring, deepen the institutional reform of its economy, transform government functions and change the operational mechanisms of enterprises. In its efforts to improve the legal system and social security system, efforts of the government should be made to improve the economic environment and expand the areas of opening up so as to promote its economic and social progress.
