服务科学是近年来在国际和国内引起人们普遍关注的关于服务经济的管理理念。文章阐述了服务业发展途径,剖析了服务科学的内涵,并在此基础上提出服务科学是一门研究管理与被管理关系的、旨在形成二者良性互动的和谐关系的现代先进管理科学的理解,并阐述了"寻找科学前沿,寻找科学领袖"的科学基金管理的基本任务。

Service economy will be an important contributor to China economy under the environment of global economic integration, especially in the process of strategic transformation of China economy. The significance of service sector on China economy should be realized from the strategic level. Plenty of favorable opportunities of development and innovation are arising in this process. It can be said that information technology and services science will bring notable changes to this world. In recent years, there is a growing trend in research on the services science all over the world. In this paper, the developing approach of service sector is illuminated, and the conceptualization of services science is further investigated as well. Based on the analysis above, the fundamental mission of NSFC, seeking research frontiers and discovering academic leaders, is declared.
