To explore the influence of self- esteem and social anxiety on lying, this study investigates 259 undergraduates through the Self - Esteem Scale, social anxiety subscale of the Self - Consciousness Scale, and perception inventory of Lying in Everyday - life and Lying in a High - stake Situation made by Gozna,Vrij & Bull. The results are as follows: (1) Male undergraduates report more lying behavior than female undergraduates. The female undergraduates from Liberal Arts College report more everyday - life lying behavior than the female undergraduates from Science College. There is no significant grade difference of undergraduates' lying behavior. (2) Lying in everyday life positively correlates to lying in a high - stake situation. (3) The individuals with high social anxiety report less lying behavior while the individuals with high self- esteem report more lying behavior. Social anxiety and self - esteem have significant predictive effect on two kinds of lying behaviors.
