Comparison of Taboos and Euphemisms between Chinese and English

禁忌语和委婉语作为两种不同的语言现象,它们既有区别又有联系。对由禁忌而产生的禁忌语和委婉语,汉、英两种语言在应用中既有相同之处也有不同之处。以语言学理论为基础,对禁忌语和委婉语在产生、性质、含义及社会功能上的联系及区别进行初步研究,有助于了解中西社会不同的民族心态、社会规范和思维方式。

As the two sides of a coin, taboo and euphemism are connected together with each own feature. The generation and the practical social function of taboos and the euphemisms in English and that in Chinese have similarity and difference as well.. Based on the theory of the social linguistics, this paper aims at a comparative cross - cultural research on the features, semantic concept and the social practical function of English and Chinese taboos and euphemisms.
