With the escalation of Indo-US strategic relations, the burgeoning civilian nuclear cooperation between them has become the focus of public concern and fierce debates concerning their own national interests have been aroused in both countries. Failing to reach national consensus, New Delhi declared a unilateral freeze of the deal in October 2007, marking a visible setback in its interaction with Washington as well as the complexity of the Indo-US nexus. Despite the transient difficulties in this major issue, to boost the bilateral strategic partnership remains the centerpiece of their respective diplomatic and security agendas in the foreseeable future.
