On the Folklore Subject through a Discussion on Folk and Lore

如何界定民与俗是中外民俗学史上一直争论的话题。传统的民与俗及其关系的界定导致了民俗研究中对民俗主体——民的长期忽视。事实上,民与俗辩证地构成了民俗这个文化综合体的两个方面。作为民俗文化事象的主要创造者和承载者,民俗主体应受到特别的关注,不论是学术上还是人文上,这不仅是民俗学者应持有的立场和观点,也是应具备的学术品格和人文素养,更是当下转型时期民俗学学科最好的意义和价值体现。

The definitions on folk and lore have long remained controversial in the history of folklore at home and abroad. The traditionally-defined folk and lore as well as their relations have resulted in the neglect of the folklore subject in the folklore studies for a long time. In fact, as a cultural complex, folklore consists of both folk and lore in a dialectical way. As creator and carrier of folklore items, folk as the folklore subject should receive particular attention, either academically or humanistically, from folklore scholars because this standpoint reveals their academic character and qualities as well as the significance and value of folklore as a discipline in the transitional period.
