Beginning with an introduction to and a critique of the Conceptual Blending Theory ( Fauconnier, G & M. Turner, 1994 ), and a brief review of the interpretative history of biblical parables, this thesis suggests that the theory in question might prove very helpful for the understanding and interpretation of such parables. By way of testing this observation, the researcher conducts an a- nalysis of a well-known parable found in Luke 10:25 -37. The result is somewhat satisfactory to the effect that a cognitive approach like this one enables readers to grasp the main message of a religious text, preventing them from getting bogged clown in superfluous details. It is also maintained at the end that given the heterogeneous nature of the reading experience attendant upon the vastly different input spaces of readers, the interpretation of a certain text, religious or otherwise, is anything but monolithic or bounded -- a feature shared by the ever-evolving cognitive science.
