Value of Modality and Power Relation——Analyzing Fiction Discourse from Pride and Prejudice

情态能表现作者或说话人的"评价"或"态度"。根据Halliday的人际功能和M artin的评价系统理论,主要用情态量值来分析小说《傲慢与偏见》片断中的人物角色之间的关系。通过对情态量值的分析,揭示了小说语篇中作者对人物及事件的态度,明确了人物的人际关系,即权势关系。此研究有助于对小说人物的理解及欣赏。

Based on the theories of Halliday＇ s interpersonal function and Martin s appraisal systems, me paper mainly uses value of modality to attempt to explore the interpersonal relation of the characters firm Pride and Prejudice. By analyzing value of modatity, the paper reveals the attitudes of the narrator or the characters and events of the novel. It identifies the interpersonal relation ,especialy power relation in the novel. This study contributes to the deep understanding and appreciation of the characters in the novel
