程千帆、孙望的《日本汉诗选评》选诗413首,大致反映了日本汉诗的写作状况。汉诗对某些日本诗人的影响,可谓融化在血液中,渗透到骨髓里。他们对汉诗,特别对唐诗熟悉的程度非常惊人,虽然在语言、体裁、内容、写作方法等方面模仿了汉诗,但能够炼意,随手拈来汉诗中的一些词语、典故,不断创新,内容上以歌颂中日交流与中日友谊为主旋律,兼有爱情、亲情、友情等题材,形式上则采用象征手法、寓哲理于形象等创作方法。
