On the Linking Up of ESP with EGP in College English Teaching

由我国大学公共英语教学暴露的一些现象入手,找出问题根源于传统的普通英语(English for Gen-eral Purposes)教学。随着我国社会、科技及经济的发展,专门用途英语(English for Specific Purposes)教学将成为21世纪英语教学的主流。结合ESP特点,说明在英语教学改革中实现ESP和EGP教学的衔接具有必要性和可能性。

Problems that originate from the traditional teaching of English for General Purposes have been found in the teaching of College English in our country. With the social, scientific and technological and economical development of our country, the teaching of English for Specific Purposes will become the main trend of English teaching. The necessity and possibility of the realization of a linking up of the teaching of ESP with that of EGP is explained in view of the characteristics of ESP.
