郭绍虞是中国文学批评史学科发展的奠基人之一,对中国文学批评史研究作出了突出的贡献。郭绍虞的中国文学批评史研究极富个性特征,其一,在资料收集上,掌握丰富的史料,且注重"史"与"论"的结合;其二,在方法运用上,注重从思想背景切入分析,并贯之"以问题为纲"的编排体例;其三,融入文化革新的时代潮流,运用"进化论"的观点阐述中国文学批评的演进过程。

Guo Shaoyu is one of the founders of Chinese literary criticism. He makes outstanding contributions to the study of the history of Chinese literary criticism. Guo＇s research is full of individual traits. Firstly, in data collecting, he collected a large arrtount of historical materials and attached importance to the combination of the historic and the theoretic. Secondly, in the application of methods, his analysis starts from the ideological background and the layout is characterized by what is known as ＂taking questions as the guiding principle＂. Thirdly, he mixed his research into the cultural innovation trend of the times and applied the theory of evolution to explaining the evolving process of Chinese literary criticism.
