The analysis on the evolution of Naodehai reservoir and its downstream river reveals that a detention reservoir in silt laden river can greatly change the hydrographs of water discharge and silt discharge as well as the relationship between water discharge and silt discharge.A great deal of silt in flood season will be transferred to dry season and heavily filled up the river channel downstream of the reservoir.
