Performance analysis of the wavelength converter based on differential cross-phase-modulation

摘要 为了了解基于差分交叉相位调制的波长转换器(DXPM-WC)的工作机理并对提高其现有的性能,利用半导体光放大器(SOA)的动态模型对DXPM-WC的脉冲波形、消光比、信号光功率范围和啁啾进行了仿真分析。通过与传统的交叉相位调制波长转换器(XPM-WC)的性能比较,仿真结果表明:基于差分交叉相位调制的波长转换器的工作码率高于SOA的载流子动态响应速率,其输出信号可获得13dB以上的消光比和2GHz以下的频率啁啾。同时,提出一种扩大DXPM-WC输入信号功率动态范围的方案,以保证当输入信号功率偏移最佳值时,DXPM-WC输出的波长转换信号的消光比仍保持在13 dB以上。 The performance of the wavelength converter based on differential cross-phase-modulation (DXPM-WC) was improved by analyzing the system characteristics, including its pattern effect, extinction ratio and frequency chirp in simulations using a dynamic model of the semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA). Comparisons with the conventional wavelength converter based on cross-phase-modulation (XPM-WC) show that the DXPM-WC can operate at bit rates beyond the carrier response bandwidth in SOA, with the converted signal from the DXPM WC having high extinction ratios (〉 13 dB) and low frequency chirp (〈2 GHz). A method was also developed to broaden the dynamic power range of the DXPM-WC input signal, so that the output converted signal can maintain a high extinction ratio (〉 13 dB) when the input signal power is detuned from the optimum value.
