The Everlasting Colour of Spring:A Review of the Symposium on the 50 Years' Music Composition of Prof. Du Mingxin

杜鸣心先生是我国当代著名的作曲家、音乐教育家。在杜先生80华诞之际,中央音乐学院于2007年10月20日举办了＂杜鸣心先生从事音乐创作50周年学术研讨会＂。在此次研讨会上,诸多专家、学者对杜鸣心先生50年来音乐创作、音乐教学生涯中多个方面取得的巨大成就进行了高度的评价。

Mr. Du Mingxin is a famous composer and music educator in China. On the occasion of his 80th birthday,the Central Conservatory of Music organized the Symposium on the 50 Years' Music Composition of Prof. Du Mingxin on October 20,2007. During the conference,many experts and scholars spoke highly of Prof. Du's great achievements in music composition and music teaching for the past 50 years. ″It is very natural that I,being an ordinary teacher employed by the government,should accomplish my duty very well and always try to improve my teaching so as to help my students learn more in my classes.″ These are the words from the very bottom of the heart of an 80-year-old man who has been working as a teacher at the Central Conservatory of Music for fifty years,and who has taught a large number of students that later became famous composers both at home and abroad,and who has composed in his spare time a lot of orchestral,piano and vocal music works. When recalling his early years,this old man had tears in his eyes and said that he was a lucky orphan who could complete music study and continue his music career for the rest of his life. This man is Prof. Du Mingxin,a renowned composer and music educator in modern China. In order to celebrate Prof. Du's 80th birthday in 2008,the Beijing Federation of Literary and Art Circles,the Beijing Musicians' Association,the Central Conservatory of Music and the Beijing Symphony Orchestra co-organized ″The Everlasting Colour of Spring -Concert in Celebrating the 50 Years' Music Composition of Du Mingxin″ and ″The Everlasting Colour of Spring -Symposium on the 50 Years' Music Composition of Du Mingxin″. ″The Everlasting Colour of Spring″ concert was held at the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing on October 19,2007. The programme includes several of Prof. Du's China premiered orchestral works,such as the world premiered Violin Concerto No. 2,programme music Piano Concerto No. 1 ″The Colour of Spring″,dance drama ″The Mermaid″,″The Red Detachment of Women″,and ″The Peony Fairy″,as well as chorus ″Ga O Li Tai″ and ″A Black Girl Is Singing″. The concert was performed by the Beijing Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Tan Lihua,with Sheng Yuan and Liu Xiao as piano and violin soloist respectively. The choral part was presented by the Choir of Students' Art Troupe of China Renmin University. On October 20,2007,the Symposium on the 50 Years' Teaching Career of Prof. Du Mingxin was held at Yulong Hotel,Beijing. Participants including experts and scholars from the Chinese Musicians' Association,the Beijing Musicians' Association,the Central Conservatory of Music,the Chinese National Academy of Arts,Tianjin Conservatory of Music,Music Department of Capital Normal University,Xinjiang College of Arts,Music Department of China Renmin University,the People's Music magazine,the Music Weekly newspaper,as well as Prof. Du's students and friends,gathered together to discuss on his music composition and teaching. The symposium was co-hosted by Wang Liguang and Yang Qing,both Vice-Chairpersons of the Beijing Musicians' Association.
